Yea i had the same experience, even when smoking i still have dreams but when I go without smoking, I have multiple long dreams every night, I'd say it'd worth the trade off if you like dreaming

Are you a part of the /rleaves subreddit!! They’re a great community for those who are quitting marijuana

Yup. I stopped smoking for a month. I lucid dreamed I was at a party with my dead brother and some family. I told my sister in law in the dream that “he’s dead though, he’s not real. She then told me yeah he can only remember to October 2023.” He died Augusta 2023. I was sad in the dream but happy to see him, he was dancing and vibing with us. But I went back to smoking because of the non stop dreams every night

I'm a heavy smoker and there have been times when I have had to quit. The dreams made me crazy. I couldn't handle it. I quit for 3 months and still had the dreams nightly.

Weed prevents your brain from entering REM sleep. It's a known side effect. Without REM sleep you're not fully rested and impacts memory formation. Heavy smoker over twenty years. I quit fifty days ago and am very happy to have my dreams again. And memory

Proud of you 😊 I smoked every day since I was 15 until I was 23. Just stopped after a bad car accident last October, caused me to start having panic attacks and feeling dissociative after smoking. So happy to have reclaimed a part of my life. I was really dependent on it. I hated the feeling of always chasing a high, but couldn’t stop

Congrats! And thank you. That's very kind. It's worth it. It was very hard for me for the first 17 days or so but it gradually got better after that until by about day thirty I felt like myself again without having to have THC. I didn't know if I'd ever quit but I'm glad I did. I hope you're doing okay from the crash. Keep up the great work!

It seems like my dreams were always either weird, bad, or exhausting lol. So it’s a welcome side effect for me.

Maybe not the memory part but I don’t miss my dreams generally speaking.

Is this true, odd because I feel more rested when I smoke. I usually don’t smoke unless socially. But every time I do, I wake up energized and not tired like I’m used too. I’ve always had sleep issues and not being a morning person. But the best mornings have been when I smoked prior to sleep.

Same! I had been smoking Delta 8 pens for a while and when I quit I started dreaming again. I forgot what it felt like to have a dream. I used to dream so much when I was younger and be so upset when I would accidentally wake up out of a good dream 😂 Glad to be having dreams worthwhile again.

Same dude after smoking cannabis for years and stopped I also have dreams every night. Allast night I was getting chased, I went on a train to run but they got on the train before it could start, in the front there was a parachute. The driver sent rope to the top of this hill, it looked abandoned but beautiful, water everywhere. I was scared of the water but in real life I truly am scared whats inside water. Dolphins came to help me the snake thru this underpass that can’t be seen from about. There was multiple ppl trying to kill me. The leader forced the driver to send him after me. A dolphin helped me, the leader thought it was helping him, the water was dark, but the dolphin took him to the bottom on the lake, it was very clear down there and there was air but very deep. The dolphin left him there. And then I woke up. It felt real it felt like I was watching a movie it felt so real. That’s how all my dreams feel now like a dream and real. To the point where I hate having dreams now and it’s only been like a month and a half. Yet the lake area was so beautiful.

OMGGG YESSS!!! People literally called me crazy when i said “yo.. i think im not dreaming because i smoke..” because say id go a day without smoking, id receive a cool dream. Or say id only smoking early in the day , like in the afternoon, i would get a semi dream and not remember it at all.

Ive quit cold turkey 5 days ago as well!! DREAMING LIKE CRAZY.

I stopped smoking in march of 2024 after smoking daily for around 6 years. It started giving me pretty bad anxiety which is why I stopped it made it easier for me to not go back. I had intense, vivid dreams for months, experienced depersonalization and derealization and it just all around was not fun. The dreams I had would stick with me all day and it just made everything harder. I just kept telling myself that it would get better and I would feel normal again and eventually I did. I kept a dream journal and even though at the time, the dreams felt so uncomfortable, reading them back now is kind of funny lol. I also had some pretty cool dreams that I miss but I’m glad they’re not as bad as they used to be anymore. Melatonin also gives me uncomfortable dreams so if I need some extra help falling asleep, I opt for diphenhydramine instead.

Your hippocampus is reactivated and healing itself.

I have been sleeping so well, honestly I can't imagine going back. When I was smoking I woke up every night at 3am with anxiety. Now I'm sleeping through the night! There's been nightmares too but I know they'll pass.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '25

Some of my most incredible, mind bending, inception type of dreams occurred when I stopped cannabis. I ended up getting a dream journal because shit was so wild. I resumed cannabis and my dreams have lessened but even just the other night I had an inception dream in a dream.

now slap a nicotine patch on before bed

1

u/used3dt Feb 04 '25

Yeah, now them some dreams! So vivid.

1

u/Krstemee Feb 03 '25

Yeah one day i went to sleep stone cold sober and had the wildest dream in years

Weed is like a dream killer, I don't smoke all too often but when I do I usually don't dream for days afterwards, I love dreaming and find so much insight into my life from them, occasionally getting genuine glimpses into the future with them, it's probably the main thing that keeps me from smoking very much, if I had to give some advice indulge yourself in those dreams, usually if you're having more than usual then there's something to be found in your dreams, a life lesson or a warning typically

2

u/EuphoricChallenge553 Feb 03 '25

I was an all day toker and never dreamt. Once I cut back and got on anxiety meds, the vivid nightmares returned. I loved not dreaming. Every night now I’m stuck in a maze of a mall with a tornado coming or some shit.

I used to smoke daily and still always had vivid dreams. I know it’s common for people to not dream when smoking cannabis. I’ve stopped smoking, and now my dreams are even more life like and vivid

1

u/Crimson_Panther_LLC Feb 03 '25

Same here

1

u/FunPlatform5638 Feb 03 '25

This happened to me when I got pregnant and stopped smoking weed, except sober and pregnancy dreams combined were 0/10 would not recommend. They were horrific and extremely gorey for some reason. Also extremely vivid. They got better over time, but the first few months were awful.

1

u/NathenWei335 Feb 03 '25

It’s been about a month since I’ve smoked and my dreams have kept me going. I want to smoke but I love my dreams so much.

1

u/Zaranu Feb 03 '25

It’s common to dream about it. I haven’t smoked daily in years and just a couple of weeks ago I had a dream I took a dab and actually felt high in my dream. After I quit I had dreams a few times a month where I smoked. Now, it’s only a few times a year.

1

u/Special_Conflict3893 Feb 03 '25

I have been off weed for almost a year now and ever since I stopped my dreams have been crazy vivid and I can recall all my dreams the day after. It’s kind of annoying cause I actually tend to have a lot of nightmares but it’s fun when I have really happy dreams. Still it’s a really different experience but I wouldn’t expect those dreams to stop anytime soon. Going to sleep drunk helps sometimes though lol.

1

u/surewhynotokaythen Feb 03 '25

I have very vivid dreams often feeling like I'm living a different life... some of them not pleasant at all. They can be more exhausting than just daily life and can stick with me for a while or even days, if I try to get back to that one place or dream. (I can't lucid dream) I have had them for most of my life. Anyhoo I had to stop smokong for a couple of days to prep for a minor surgery and had a couple of doozies, so I'm glad the surgery is over and I can drift into blissful darkness once more.

1

u/ElxdieCH Feb 03 '25

I experienced the exact same thing. I always woke up feeling tired after smoking and I’d smoke every day, go to bed and just dream of nothing. Pure black nothingness. Then I’d wake up feeling exhausted. It got to the point where I thought I had an iron deficiency from constant exhaustion. Stopped smoking and haven’t since November and I lucid dream in vivid detail nearly every night. Crazy

1

u/Electrical_Gas_517 Feb 03 '25

I lucid dream, have done since childhood. Nothing beats a THC withdrawal lucid dream. It's like living a second life in an alternate universe. The things I have seen, done and invented....

1

u/ThrowRAyourmotherr Feb 03 '25

I keep having dreams about my ex getting arrested since I’ve quit🤣

1

u/Obvious-Performer385 Feb 03 '25

B vitamins will help stop that. B complex or some nutritional yeast.

1

u/XAVIAR-THE-LAMB Feb 03 '25

I don't dream with or without it

1

u/BagofDischarge Feb 03 '25

This is called “REM rebound” and occurs because long term use of THC causes “REM Suppression”. Dreams only happen in REM, so now, no thc, lots of REM means lots of dreams.

I stopped smoking almost a week ago and I keep dreaming of this pretty dark haired chick and a tiger.

1

u/ashortergiraffe Feb 04 '25

By looking through the comments, it seems I am in the fortunate minority. I’ve been smoking every day for almost 20 years but I have multiple dreams a night, remember a lot of them, and lucid dream on occasion as well. Maybe I just smoke far enough before going to sleep?

1

u/Funny_Artichoke_2962 Feb 04 '25

My dreams are normally horrific so I’ll keep on smokin

1

u/DarkSideBelle Feb 04 '25

This is the exact reason I make sure to smoke before I go to sleep. I suffer from PTSD nightmares and cannabis is the only thing that stops them.

1

u/Ok-Course3724 Feb 04 '25

Yes! Ive smoked weed heavily for over half my life(since I was about 12 yrs old). I recently quit and I’ve learned that I love dreaming! I used to never dream and now I’ll have 3 or 4 per night. Every once in a while a nightmare but more good than bad. When I first quit the nightmares were more often but not so much now.

1

u/OldGuyNewTrix Feb 04 '25

Yea, I’m a daily smoker and recall 0 dreams. Kinda sucks.
